Vegetarians/Vegans Restaurants In Tokyo

I always impressed with vegetarians and vegans in Japan….
A simple question, ” How do you survive?”, comes up in my mind.
As you know Japanese cuisines are deeply connected with fish so that it is very hard for them to go out for meals in Japan.
Even though meals seem to be cooked by all vegetables, soup stock “dashi” which contains fish extract are used most of the time.
None of my native Japanese friends are vegetarian nor vegans though, some of my friends from overseas are.
One of my vegetarian friends gave up being a vegetarian while she was in Japan for a few years.
Some of them have tried not to be fussy about being pure vegetarians and compromised what they have without knowing.
I know it is not easy to find vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Japan, but let’s try to have a look what we have got!

I had its most popular menu, Seasonal Veges with Bagna càuda sauce! Unfortunately the sauce contains anchovy…
You would enjoy without sauce too. Some veges are not familiar such as wild rice fungus!! and kohlrabi so that it was a new experience for me.

Rice bake with white sauce which I had was tasty too!

Vegetable Curry Rice presentation looked beautiful.
The restaurant uses dashi too though, they can offer you pure vegetarian meals if you request.
They said that they would appreciate if you could mention that you are a vegetarian or vegan in advance.
Be on the safe side!! It would be better to book your seats before you visit. This restaurant is very popular so I had to wait for 30 minutes anyway. Making a reservation is not that bad idea. Enjoy you vegetaberus meal.
