One of our new residents stopped by our office the other day and
asked where he could find foreign books in Tokyo. I was delighted by his question
because I heart foreign books. My iPad has loads of classics, but in my house,
I am buried in the mountains of books.
My French colleague who happened to be sitting next to me was also curious. I recommended three bookstores to our new resident. Kinokuniya Books is a long-established chain and has two stores in the Shinjuku area. The one on the south side of Shinjuku Station carries French, Italian, German and Chinese books in addition to English books. The top floor of Tower Records Shibuya is dedicated to English books magazines and newspapers from around the world. If you are planning to visit different destinations from Japan, they have a sizable collection of travel guides including Fodor’s and Lonely Planet.
You will find yourself in aisles of magazines of different genres. The prices are good too.
Good Day Books has just moved to its Gotanda store. Don’t miss their author events.
If you like to read, we would love to hear from you about your favorite books and authors!
